KATHMANDU: Devendra Poudel, Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has accused the government of disrespecting the parliament by amending 31 laws through ordinances.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters Club Nepal on Saturday, Poudel stated that while the constitution does not prohibit issuing ordinances, the current government has done so in a manner that undermines parliamentary integrity.

He argued that the ordinances were not introduced in line with democratic values and that the process itself was flawed. Citing past instances where laws were fast-tracked through parliament within a week, he questioned the need for ordinances.

Poudel also called for the withdrawal and redrafting of the government’s proposed social media regulation bill, claiming that its primary focus is on imposing penalties to instill fear rather than establishing a fair regulatory framework.

Additionally, he clarified that his party has not engaged in any negotiations or lobbying to topple the government.
