BAGLUNG: Baglung district has produced oranges worth Rs 264.6 million this year.

Despite a slight decline in production, farmers have received higher prices compared to last year.

Overall production decreased by 28 metric tons compared to last year. However, the value that orange farmers received increased by Rs 18.6 million due to higher selling prices this year, according to Santosh Adhikari, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Baglung.

Last year, 4,100 metric tons of oranges were produced in the district, but this year production dropped to 4,071 metric tons.

Despite the decrease in quantity, the minimum price per kilogram increased from Rs 60 last year to Rs 65 this year. Last year, oranges worth Rs 246 million were sold from the district.

Adhikari noted that the decrease in production this year was due to a lack of timely rainfall and insufficient winter irrigation.

According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, oranges are cultivated in 655 hectares of land in the district.

Of this, orange plants on 377 hectares yielded fruit this year. Oranges are grown in Baglung Municipality, Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Jaimini Municipality, and Galkot Municipality.
