BP Koirala’s vision for unity and sovereignty celebrated on Reconciliation Day
Nepal celebrates Reconciliation Day today to honor the legacy of BP Koirala, the nation’s first elected Prime Minister and a key figure in fostering national unity and reconciliation.
On January 30, 1976 ( Poush 16, 2033 BS), Koirala, along with prominent leaders like Ganeshman Singh, Shailaja Acharya, and others, returned to Nepal after eight years of exile.
Their return marked a pivotal moment in the country’s political history, demonstrating a commitment to sovereignty and unity despite facing eight pending death penalty cases.
Tola Lhosar being celebrated today in Nepal’s mountainous districts
The Tola Lhosar festival, observed on the first day of the waxing moon in the month of Poush as per the lunar calendar, is being celebrated today in various districts, including Humla, Jumla, Dolpa, Mugu, and Manang.
Known as the oldest among the various Lhosar festivals, Tola Lhosar signifies the wheel of time and is also referred to as the “Time Cycle Year.”
This festival is rooted in the traditions of the Sonam Lhosar celebrated by the Tamang community, although the two festivals occur on different days.

Biplav-led Communist Party of Nepal to contest 2027 elections
The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav,’ has officially announced its participation in the upcoming 2027 elections. The party has decided to register with the Election Commission and select an appropriate election symbol.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Tuesday, General Secretary Biplav shared the outcomes of the recently concluded sixth plenary meeting of the Ninth Central Committee.
He revealed that the party aims to use the upcoming elections to promote socialism with Nepali characteristics, which has been a core principle of the party.
Nepal sees 1.14 million tourist arrivals in 2024
Nepal has welcomed more than 1.14 million tourists in 2024, marking a significant recovery in the tourism sector.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board, as of this morning, the country has seen a total of 1.147 million visitors.
Board Director Marinraj Lamichhane shared that, on average, 3,000 tourists have arrived daily, reflecting a 14 percent increase from 2023.
RSP central committee meeting scheduled to last three days
The central committee of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to convene from January 3 to 5.
This will be the first extended meeting of the committee since Chair Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest.
Provincial chairs and general secretaries have also been invited to participate in the discussions.
The government is preparing to implement a new tourism policy aimed at the holistic development of Nepal’s tourism sector, announced Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey.
Speaking at an event commemorating the 26th anniversary of the Nepal Tourism Board on Tuesday, Minister Pandey revealed that the new policy will provide a framework to guide the tourism industry and foster sustainable growth.
Minister Pandey emphasized the importance of operating the Nepal Tourism Board under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model to effectively harness resources and expertise from both sectors.
