Nepal-India joint exercise to begin today



KATHMANDU: The 18th edition of the Nepal-India military exercise, aimed at enhancing security and strengthening bilateral relations, is set to commence today (Tuesday) in Saljhandi, Rupandehi.

The battalion-level joint military exercise, titled Suryakiran, will focus on various operational areas, including jungle warfare, counterterrorism in challenging terrains, peacekeeping missions as per the UN Charter, humanitarian aid in disaster management, relief mobilization, internal capacity building, and environmental protection.

The two-week-long training will involve the participation of the Sri Jung Battalion from the Nepali Army and the 11th Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army.

According to Nepali Army Spokesperson Gaurab Kumar KC, the exercise aims to foster friendly relations, mutual trust, and cultural ties between Nepal and India. It will also enhance professional collaboration between the two nations’ armed forces.

The 17th edition of Suryakiran was held last year in Pithoragarh, India. To date, 4,215 personnel from the Nepali Army and 4,442 personnel from the Indian Army have participated in this joint exercise, which began in 2067 BS.
