KATHMANDU: Rahul Mahara, the son of former Speaker, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, has been released from prison after serving 14 months.
He was released on Tuesday, as confirmed by Hobindra Bogati, Spokesperson for the Central Investigation Bureau of Police.
Rahul was incarcerated at the Central Jail and was released after fulfilling the prison sentence imposed by the Kathmandu District Court.
He was implicated in a case involving the smuggling of 9 kg of gold.
The court had previously ordered his remand in custody following his arrest.
Mahara’s arrest stemmed from an incident when 9 kg of gold was discovered among 730 vapes in 73 parcels brought by a Chinese citizen, Lee, who arrived on a Fly Dubai flight.
