Two senior Secretaries resign over appointment of new Chief Secretary
Two senior secretaries have resigned in protest against the appointment of Ek Narayan Aryal as the Chief Secretary. Secretary Toya Narayan Gyawali of the National Planning Commission and Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai of the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Welfare submitted their resignations following Aryal’s appointment. Gyawali, who was the most senior secretary and ranked first among secretaries, and Bhattarai, who ranked third, were reportedly dissatisfied with the decision to appoint Aryal, who was ranked fourth.
4.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Manang
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was recorded in the Thoche area of Manang early this morning. The National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center in Lainchaur reported that the quake occurred at 3:47 a.m., with its epicenter near Thoche in Manang. This follows a previous earthquake of magnitude 4.3, which occurred near Masadev in Bajhang on August 13.
PM Oli congratulates Palesha Govardhan on Paralympic bronze medal
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated Palesha Govardhan for winning a historic bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. In a social media post this morning, PM Oli praised Govardhan for achieving a significant milestone for Nepal in sports. The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games have been ongoing in Paris, France, since August 28. Competing in the women’s under 57 kg Taekwondo event in the K-44 category, Palesha secured the bronze medal by defeating Serbia’s Marija Micev with a score of 15-8 in a match held last night. Earlier, Palesha had defeated Valeria Morales of Venezuela 31-0 in the first round, advancing to the quarterfinals, where she narrowly lost to Brazil’s Silvana Fernandes with a score of 10-8.
17th National Library Day celebrated today
The 17th National Library Day was observed today with various programs across the country. The day, celebrated annually on Bhadra 15 in the Lunar calendar, marks the day in 1869 BS when King Griwanayuddha Bikram Shah authorized the establishment of libraries. This year’s Library Day was celebrated under the theme “Library for Continuous Education” and is coordinated by a main organizing committee led by Dr. Deepak Kafley, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology. The committee is hosting an event to honor the best librarians and readers.

Palesha Goverdhan has won a historic bronze medal for Nepal at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Competing in the women’s Taekwondo K-44 category, under 57 kg event, Palesha defeated Serbia’s Marija Micev with a score of 15-8 to secure the coveted bronze medal for herself and the country. This achievement makes Palesha the first Nepali athlete to win a medal at the Paralympics. In her first-round match, she defeated Valeria Morales of Venezuela with a dominant 31-0 score, advancing to the quarterfinals.
CAN announces eight franchises for Nepal Premier League
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has unveiled the eight franchise teams participating in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). This is the first time a Nepalese franchise cricket league will feature eight teams, marking a significant expansion from previous leagues. The teams are named after five major cities and three provinces: Cities: Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Chitwan, and Pokhara and Provinces: Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim The NPL is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21 in Kathmandu.

Pancha Dan festival celebrated in Bhaktapur

The five items typically donated—rice grains, unhusked rice grains, salt, money, and pulses—are considered daily necessities. Ramkala Khadka elected President of Working Women Journalists (WWJ)
Ramkala Khadka has been elected President of the Working Women Journalists (WWJ) during the organization’s 12th annual general meeting and seventh convention, which concluded on Saturday. Khadka, who previously served as Vice-President, will now lead a 12-member executive committee. Chanda Bista was elected Vice-President, Ramita Kumari Lama as General Secretary, Rukmini Pokharel as Secretary, and Deepa Ale as Treasurer.
Youths stage anti-corruption protest in Kathmandu
A group of youths, led by Dr. Kamal Bhusal, staged a protest against corruption in Kathmandu on Saturday. The protestors demanded that the government recover Rs 22 billion in dues owed to the Nepal Electricity Authority and investigate major corruption cases, including the Giribandu land scam and the Bhutanese refugee scandal. Dr. Bhusal warned the government of potential civil unrest akin to that in Bangladesh if these issues are not addressed. He also announced plans to intensify the protests and demonstrations starting Sunday.
NC office-bearers agree to unanimously endorse Mahasamiti proposals
The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to unanimously endorse the proposals presented at the Mahasamiti meeting held in February this year. In a meeting held on Saturday at the Budhanilkantha residence of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC office bearers and former office bearers agreed to present the proposals at a central committee meeting scheduled for Sunday. According to the party’s Chief Secretary, Krishna Prasad Paudel, the central committee is expected to unanimously approve the documents. The central committee meeting will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the party’s Central Office in Sanepa.
