Chhahari organisation Nepal celebrates Library Day with book donation to public libraries

KATHMANDU: In an effort to revive the diminishing reading culture, Chhahari Organisation Nepal (CON) has taken a significant step towards empowering public libraries across the country.

To mark Library Day 2024, the organization donated books to a public library in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Nirajan Paudel, General Secretary of the Manohara Public Library, reported that Chhahari provided books worth Rs 170,000 during a ceremony held in Kageshwori Manohara-6, Mulpani, Kathmandu.

Speaking at the event, CON President Raghab Sharma expressed concern over the declining reading habits and expressed hope that the donated books would offer locals an alternative to electronic gadgets.

He also mentioned that Chhahari, in collaboration with Project Nepal, donated a total of 350 books to the library.

Library Day is observed on Bhadra 15 of the lunar calendar, commemorating the 1869 BS decree by King Girwanyuddha Bikram Shah that permitted the establishment of public libraries.
