KATHMANDU: Balendra Sah (Balen), Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has decided to cancel his trip to Singapore despite receiving approval from the federal government.

The mayor was scheduled to participate in the upcoming ‘World Cities Summit,’ scheduled to take place in Singapore from June 2-4.

Mayor Sah had sought approval from the federal government to attend the summit through a formal letter.

The federal government had granted approval for Mayor Sah’s visit to Singapore.

Mayor Sah’s participation in the event was confirmed.

However, due to time constraints arising from the formulation of the new fiscal year’s budget, he opted not to proceed with the Singapore trip.

Although Mayor Sah had initially sought permission to travel to Singapore, he did not inform the federal government about his decision to cancel the trip.

The Cabinet made the decision on Friday without being informed of Mayor Sah’s cancellation of the Singapore trip.

The proposal regarding Mayor Sah’s trip was approved by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration.

Deepak Adhikari, Assistant Spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, stated that as Mayor Sah would not be attending, Kathmandu Metropolitan City would no longer be participating in the summit.

“He had applied for permission for the trip some time ago,” mentioned Deepak Adhikari, the assistant spokesperson, adding, “However, the decision to cancel the trip had been made earlier. Since information about the cancellation was not provided, the federal government approved his trip.”
