PM Dahal, Oli, and Nepal ‘assure’ stability in top leaders’ meeting in Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Tensions have surfaced among key leaders of major political parties following a meeting between Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the Unified Socialist Party and a coalition partner in the government, and Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress, at Budhanilkantha on Wednesday.

According to sources, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli expressed their concern about leader Nepal’s participation in the opposition parties’ meeting at Budhanilkantha.

The meeting has left leaders of the ruling coalition wary after Nepal’s presence during the opposition parties’ gathering in Budhanilkantha.

During the approximately one-hour-long discussion at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singh Durbar, Prime Minister Dahal, UML Chairman Oli, and Unified Socialist Party Chairman Nepal conversed on contemporary political issues, the Prime Minister Dahal’s Secretariat said.

Prime Minister Dahal has been trying to assure the coalition leaders and supporters that despite Nepal’s meeting with Deuba, the incumbent coalition will remain intact.

NC President Deuba has reportedly assured former Prime Minister Nepal to make Prime Minister provided he quits the incumbent coalition.

“The discussion was centered on ensuring the stability of the coalition government and governments in the provinces,” a leader close to Nepal said after the meeting.
