DRI files revenue fraud case against Cotiviti, seeks largest demand ever made in Nepal

The Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has filed a case demanding a staggering amount of Rs. 10.36 billion against Cotiviti, an American investment IT company, for alleged revenue fraud. According to DRI sources, the case has been filed against Cotiviti Nepal for an alleged revenue evasion of Rs. 5.18 billion, along with an additional claim of Rs. 5.18 billion in penalties. This is the first time such a hefty penalty has been demanded against a single business entity, as stated by DRI Director General, Navaraj Dhungana.

No vote of confidence for Bagmati Chief Minister as it is: Unified Socialist Party

The ruling CPN-Unified Socialist party has indicated that it cannot provide a vote of confidence to the Bagmati government under the current circumstances. During a meeting of the provincial parliamentary party held on Sunday, Krishna Khanal, the leader of the Unified Socialist Party in the Bagmati Province Assembly, expressed dissatisfaction with various issues, ultimately leading to the decision not to provide a vote of confidence to the provincial government.

NC to oppose Bagmati Province CM in confidence vote

Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, has made a decisive move to vote against Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jamkattel, in an upcoming confidence vote. In a meeting held today in Kathmandu, the party’s Bagmati province committee directed its parliamentary party in the province to oppose CM Jamkattel in the confidence vote scheduled for Monday. CM Jamkattel, aiming to secure his position, must attain 56 out of 110 votes in his favor.

CIAA files nearly three billion rupees corruption case against six over COVID health supply procurement

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken stern action, filing a case worth nearly three billion rupees against six individuals for their alleged involvement in corruption related to health supplies procurement during the COVID-19 outbreak. The anti-corruption body lodged the case at the Special Court in Kathmandu on Sunday. As per CIAA sources, the defendants include Chandradev Mehetā, former Director of the Health Directorate in Dhankuta, along with biomedical engineer Kushal Dahal, accounts officer Dandar Singh Bishwakarma, procurement officer Udesh Kumar Shrestha, and Bishal Pandit and Manoj Kumar Acharya, proprietors of Hospitek Enterprises.

NEPSE drops by 17 points, substantial decline in share price of Sarbottam Cement

On the first trading day of the week, Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index plummeted by 17.30 points to settle at 2,018.33 points today. A total of 7,957,659 shares of 316 companies were traded, totaling a turnover of Rs. 3,205,332,324. While Non-Life Insurance Group’s sub-index rose by 0.12 percent, all other group sub-indices witnessed a decline today.

NC President Deuba convenes CWEC meeting for Tuesday

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called for a meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) scheduled for Tuesday. Sources within the Nepali Congress disclosed that the meeting is set to take place at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha at 2 pm on Tuesday. The primary agenda of the CWEC gathering is anticipated to be the finalization of the Nepali Congress candidates for the Ilam-2 and Bajhang-1 constituencies for the upcoming by-elections.

SC extends detention of 21 more days against corruption accused Bikal and Sunil

The Special Court has granted permission to extend the detention of Bikal Paudel and Sunil Paudel, who were arrested on charges of illegal property acquisition, for an additional 21 days for further investigation. According to Special Court’s spokesperson, Dhan Bahadur Karki, the full bench of Special Court chaired by Judge Teknarayan Kunwar, with members Tejanarayan Singh Rai and Riten Thapa, granted the request for additional detention of former Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, Sunil, and former Executive Director of Security Printing Press, Bikal.

CM Sharma of Karnali province to face confidence vote on Tuesday

Chief Minister Raj Kumar Sharma of Karnali Province is set to undergo a vote of confidence on Tuesday, as announced by the provincial secretariat. CM Sharma will seek the vote of confidence after the Nepali Congress withdrew its support from the provincial government due to recent changes in the political landscape at the federal level.
