Church Boys United clinch victory in 14th Itahari Gold Cup final



DHARAN: In a thrilling final showdown under the floodlights at the Itahari Stadium, Church Boys United of Kathmandu emerged victorious, clinching the prestigious title of the 14th Itahari Gold Cup.

Their resolute performance saw them triumph over the formidable Tribhuvan Army Club with a narrow 1-0 victory, marking a memorable turnaround from their runner-up position in the previous edition.

Rajesh Pariyar etched his name in the annals of football history by netting a decisive goal for Church Boys United just four minutes into the game, setting the tone for their triumph.

His stellar contribution earned him the coveted title of Man of the Match along with a cash prize of 10,000 rupees.

The jubilant Church Boys United not only lifted the trophy but also received a handsome cash prize of Rs 1 million for their stellar performance.

On the other hand, the valiant efforts of the Tribhuvan Army Club were duly acknowledged as they secured the runner-up position and were rewarded with a prize of Rs 500,000.

The tournament also recognized outstanding individual performances, with Prabesh Danuwar of Rastriya Jagriti Club being adjudged as the Best Player of the Tournament, receiving a substantial cash prize of 100,000 rupees.

Additionally, accolades were bestowed upon notable players in various categories, including Jitendra Karki for Best Defender, Dip Karki for Best Goalkeeper, Nabayug Shrestha for Best Forward Player, and Surajjyu Thakuri for Best Midfielder.

Darshan Bhaktaraj of Church Boys United was lauded as the Best Coach, further exemplifying the team’s collective excellence.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Social Development Minister of Koshi Province Rajendra Karki and Mayor of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City Hem Karna Poudel, who felicitated the deserving winners amidst a backdrop of celebration and camaraderie.

The 14th Itahari Gold Cup, which commenced on March 23, witnessed the participation of nine teams, including a contingent from India, adding an international flair to the exhilarating tournament.

As the curtains draw on yet another thrilling edition, the legacy of football excellence continues to flourish, promising a bright future for the sport in the region.
