India, Pakistan, and West Indies shine in U19 Cricket World Cup Super Six stage opener

KATHMANDU: The Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 commenced with exciting victories for India, Pakistan, and West Indies.

India’s Dominance Continues

In Bloemfontein, India showcased their strength by defeating New Zealand convincingly with a 214-run margin.

Despite losing a few early wickets, India’s Musheer Khan’s explosive century propelled them to a formidable total.

In reply, India’s bowlers, led by Saumy Pandey’s 4/19, bundled out New Zealand for a comfortable win.

West Indies Clinch a Thriller

In Kimberley, West Indies faced a tough challenge from Sri Lanka but managed to secure a nail-biting three-wicket victory.

Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 231, with Dinura Kalupahana leading the way with his third fifty of the tournament.

In the chase, West Indies skipper Stephan Pascal’s quick start set the tone, and despite losing wickets, Raneico Smith’s crucial contribution helped them cross the finish line.

Pakistan Maintains Unbeaten Streak

In Potchefstroom, Pakistan’s disciplined bowling restricted Ireland to a modest total.

Despite a few hiccups in the chase, Azan Awais, Saad Baig, and Ahmad Hassan guided Pakistan to a three-wicket win.

Ubaid Shah starred with the ball, claiming 3/31 to contribute to Ireland’s downfall.

With these victories, India, Pakistan, and West Indies have strengthened their positions in the race for the U19 Cricket World Cup trophy during the Super Six stage.

The intense competition continues as the remaining teams vie for a spot in the semi-finals.

Nepal is scheduled to face Bangladesh today.
