Mets urge caution as Nepal braces for rain and snow

KATHMANDU: A western low-pressure system, driven by the prevailing westerly winds, is poised to bring rain and snow to various regions of the country starting today and extending through Thursday, warns the Weather Forecasting Division (WFD).

In response to the imminent weather conditions, the Division has advised people to exercise caution as widespread rain and snowfall are anticipated today and tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday).

The Division has outlined the likelihood of light to moderate snowfall in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Sudurpaschim Province, Karnali Province, and Gandaki Province.

Additionally, it has predicted scattered snow in select areas of Bagmati and Koshi Provinces.

Meanwhile, the Division has also suggested the possibility of light to heavy rainfall in parts of Karnali Pradesh, Lumbini Pradesh, and Gandaki Pradesh, as well as a few locations in the hilly areas of Bagmati and Koshi Pradesh.

The weather system is also expected to cause a drop in temperature on Wednesday and Thursday, creating cooler conditions.

The Division has urged concerned people to take necessary preparation as the daily life, health, mountain climbing, air/transport, etc., may be affected by the weather system.

Furthermore, the Division has anticipated a gradual improvement in weather conditions starting from Friday, primarily in the Surudpaschim Province.
