Bangladesh wins the SAFF Women’s Championship, Nepal once again finishes as runner-up
Bangladesh has won the SAFF Women’s Championship title, while Nepal once again had to settle for the runner-up position.
Bangladesh defeated the home team Nepal by a score of 2-1 in the final held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
In the 52nd minute, Bangladesh scored to take a 1-0 lead, while in the 55th minute, Amisha Karki scored for Nepal, leveling the match. Again, Bangladesh took the lead in the 80th minute, making the score 2-1.
Former Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal cleared of corruption charges by Special Court
Former Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal, who was suspended following corruption allegations, has been acquitted by the Special Court.
Aryal and ten co-defendants, including a private company, were cleared of charges, while two defendants were found guilty.
The bench of Special Court Chair Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar, member judges Khushi Prasad Tharu and Ritendra Thapa gave a verdict acquitting Aryal and others.
Mayor Shah concerned over ‘sorry state’ of Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah has expressed concern over the condition of the Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana Vikas Samiti, saying its status reflected the nation’s overall situation.
Addressing the programme organized to mark the Rastriya Arogya Diwas and Dhanawantari Diwas as well as the 30th anniversary of Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana Vikas Samiti here today, he said an institution with the potential of making big contribution to the country’s economy itself becoming enfeebled us a matter of concern.
“One has to look at the status of the Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana if one wanted to see why and how the nation is failing and what the problem is. Ninety percent of the state-run industries are rented out and if not they are made to collapse under the influence and pressure from the private corporations,” he said, pointing out the reasons why the government-run industries and enterprises are making losses.
Gold price reaches Rs 170,700 per tola
Gold prices surged by 2,200 rupees in a single day, reaching a record high.
According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Association, today (Wednesday), gold is priced at 170,700 rupees per tola, up from Rs 168,500 yesterday.
Silver also saw an increase today, priced at Rs 2,120 per tola, compared to yesterday’s price of Rs 2,105—an increase of Rs 15.
Sewa Lamsal approved as Ambassador to Belgium
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has approved the name of Sewa Lamsal as the proposed Ambassador to Belgium.
The decision came during a meeting held on Wednesday morning, following the completion of the hearing regarding a complaint against Lamsal.
During the meeting, Lamsal presented her action plan, outlining strategies to actively and effectively protect and promote Nepal’s national interests in multilateral forums.
In the wake of disaster, Prime Minister Oli shifts blame to predecessor’s budget
Prime Minister KP Oli returned from the United States while many citizens were trapped in floods and landslides.
Defending his trip at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), he stated, “I did not go to America to milk buffaloes. Floods and landslides do not come with advance warning; we could not have prevented the floods. Don’t protest just for the sake of protest.”
As of October 22, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, chaired by PM Oli, reported that 250 people lost their lives in the September floods and landslides.
