KUKL water supply disrupted in Lalitpur

LALITPUR: The water supply of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Ltd (KUKL) has been disrupted in Lalitpur due to flooding and landslides triggered by incessant rain.

Leela Bhatta, chief of the KUKL Lalitpur branch, reported that the water supply service has been interrupted following recent relentless rains.

Damage has occurred to the penstock pipe from the Pharping Pump House and the pipeline from Nallu to Chapagaun Panipokhari.

“The pipeline and intake from Nallu have been completely destroyed. We haven’t been able to conduct an on-site inspection due to the landslide in Pharpingdanda, which has bent and broken the pipe in several places. Restoring the service will take some time,” Bhatta said.

He added that access to the source has been hampered by landslide damage to the road, complicating efforts to assess the situation.

Approximately 70 percent of households in the area will be affected by the water supply disruption.

Bhatta estimates it will take about 10 days to restore service after an assessment of the damage is completed.
