Traffic resumes at Koshi Barrage bridge

RAJBIRAJ: Traffic on the Koshi Barrage bridge along the East-West Highway has resumed.

Chief District Officer of Saptari, Mekh Bahadur Magrati, announced that this decision was made following a decline in the water level of the Koshi River.

“The movement through the bridge was suspended at 4:00 PM on Saturday after water flow surpassed alarming levels,” Magrati stated.

“However, with the water level steadily decreasing since Sunday morning, we have reopened the bridge to the public.”

Clearing debris from the Koshi bridge took eight hours. Security personnel, local residents, and dozers worked together to remove the waste piled up due to flooding.

The water level in the Koshi River is receding. According to the Koshi Barrage Control Room, the flow measured 345,415 cusecs at 7:30 PM on Sunday, down from Saturday’s record high of 661,000 cusecs—the highest recorded in 56 years.

The recent incessant rainfall has contributed to flooding, causing inundation in the eastern hilly and Madhes-based Tarai districts.
