Cultural revolution necessitates social transformation: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized that a socialist cultural revolution necessitates social transformation during his address at the 8th national conference of the People’s Culture Federation, Nepal.

PM Dahal stressed the need to establish a socialist culture by eradicating superstition.

He stated, “Society is the foundation of culture, so social transformation is required to elevate the socialist cultural movement,” adding that people’s lifestyles can serve as the base for a socialist culture, which can be organized gradually.

The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), recalled the days of the cultural movement during the armed revolution.

He suggested the formation and mobilization of local clubs to promote production and labor culture.

“The oriental philosophy is rich. Knowledge and philosophy have no national boundaries. Thus, the human knowledge gained across the globe is everyone’s common property and pride,” he noted.

PM Dahal reiterated the necessity of establishing a socialist culture to counter consumerism and postmodernism.

He emphasized that a civilized culture is the soul of life and that the promotion and protection of art, culture, drama, and music can help lay the foundation for a socialist culture.

He called for a serious review of why politicians were neglecting the cultural revolution and urged the Federation to highlight the multidimensional achievements of the republic through intellectual debates and research.

Additionally, PM Dahal clarified that the ruling coalition had no problems and was progressing towards social justice, good governance, and prosperity.

He mentioned that the budget had prioritized literature, art, and culture, and that museums would be established in ancient settlements in collaboration with concerned communities.
