KATHMANDU: Senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has praised the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, stating that it has created hope among citizens.
“This budget prioritizes land reforms, agricultural revolution, cooperatives, industrialization, education, and healthcare sectors,” said Khanal.
“The budget has introduced projects to eradicate poverty, create employment, and control the exodus of youths. It offers something new and sends positive, hopeful messages. While we aim for political stability and prosperity, the implementation of these good programs remains to be seen,” Khanal remarked.
Addressing rumors of a split in his party and changes in the ruling alliance, Khanal acknowledged that such possibilities often arise in a hung parliament but emphasized that the current coalition has a long tenure ahead.
“Debates are ongoing within our party, but we have firm support for this government,” Khanal said.
He argued that internal party issues should not be made public.
“Our party might have discussed claiming the premiership internally, but such matters should be handled within political homework. The main focus is on good governance and political stability. Political leadership must unite for the country’s development and transformation,” Khanal emphasized.
Khanal noted that the government must create a convincing atmosphere among citizens to ensure stability and a clear direction for the nation.
Regarding the party’s General Convention, Khanal mentioned it is scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 4 in Kathmandu.
This event aims to advance the process of socialist revolution and transformation.
“The responsibility of promoting socialism-related programs falls on the General Convention, which will guide our party’s actions, policies, principles, strategies, and revolutionary path,” he said.
Khanal, reflecting on the three years since the formation of the CPN (US), stated that the party would move forward by reviewing feedback received during this period.
The General Convention will address the party’s course of action in the national and international contexts, passing policies, principles, and programs.
Responding to questions about policy disputes within the reports to be presented at the General Convention, Khanal explained the party’s focus on unity, transformation, and revolution.
“We aim to raise Nepal’s communist movement from a new foundation. The party will strive to unite leftist forces based on purposeful unity, even if full unification of all communist parties is not possible. The General Convention should conclude on this matter,” he stressed.
When asked about his intentions to lead the party, Khanal stated he is ready to accept any role assigned by the upcoming General Convention.
“I am prepared to contribute to the party in any capacity,” he affirmed. He also noted that competition for party leadership should not be seen negatively, as it is a democratic process.
Admitting the need for significant reform within the party, Khanal said the existing structure and working style are insufficient for revolution.
He advised the party to adopt effective ideologies and political mandates first, followed by developing the organizational culture accordingly. He insisted on a significant shift in the working style.
The senior leader concluded by emphasizing the necessity of unity among leftist forces to guide the nation towards progress.
