ILAM: Suhang Nembang, the CPN (UML) candidate in the by-election for the Member of the House of Representatives, has embarked on his parliamentary career following his victory in the by-polls held in Ilam-2 constituency.

Suhang begins his journey as a legislator, carrying forward the legacy of his father, Subash Chandra Nembang, who served as the UML Vice Chair and represented the Ilam-2 constituency until his passing on September 12, 2023.

In the by-election, Suhang secured victory over his closest contender, Dambar Bahadur Khadka of the Nepali Congress, by a margin of 5,830 votes, with Suhang garnering 27,772 votes while Khadka received 21,942 votes.

Born on February 17, 1990, in Kathmandu to father Subash Chandra Nembang and mother Bishal Nembang, Suhang spent his early years in education at Galaxy Public School before completing his School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination from Jagat Secondary School.

He pursued his studies up to Grade 12 at Gyanodaya Balvatika School before venturing to Australia for higher education. After two years abroad, he returned to Nepal.

Back in Nepal, he enrolled at the Kathmandu School of Law, obtaining degrees in BLLB and LLM in Commercial Law. Inspired by his father’s legal background, Suhang followed in his footsteps and delved into the field of law.

Recently, Suhang had been practicing law, establishing the ‘Kantipur Law Associates and Research Centre’ in Thapagaon, Kathmandu.

Despite his profession, Suhang’s true passion lies in sports, particularly football and cricket.

Throughout his school life, spent mostly in hostels, Suhang actively participated in college sports upon his return from Australia.

Two years ago, he established the ‘Ilam Sporting De Mechi Club’ to foster the development of the sports sector in Ilam, reaching various rural areas to promote sports activities.

Having observed politics closely due to his father’s involvement, Suhang initially remained distant from political activities.

However, following his father’s sudden demise, the party nominated him as the MP candidate, facilitating his entry into parliament at a young age.

Supported by CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN, and Nepal Pariwar Dal, Suhang now carries the responsibility of upholding his father’s legacy and earning the trust of the new generation.

Expressing his aspirations, Suhang aims to fulfill his father’s unaccomplished dreams and contribute to the country’s prosperity and good governance.

He emphasizes bringing about a change in the youth’s perception of politics and reducing their inclination towards foreign employment.

Currently serving as a central member of the UML’s Department of Law, Suhang comes from a family of professionals, with an elder sister practicing as a dental surgeon and a younger sister pursuing a master’s degree in Urban Studies.
