Corruption allegations filled against Prachanda and 12 others

KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Tuesday, demanding an investigation into alleged embezzlement of funds allocated for Maoist fighters stationed in temporary camps during the peace process.

The complaint, lodged by Yubaraj Paudel ‘Safal,’ accuses 13 individuals, including Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ the Chair of CPN Maoist Centre, as well as Deputy General Secretaries Barshaman Pun Ananta and Janardan Sharma Prabhakar.

Other names listed in the complaint include former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, and former commanders of the Maoist army such as Chakra Pani Khanal.

Also implicated are Santu Darai, Suk Bahadur Roka, Dhan Bahadur Maske, Yam Bahadur Adhikari, Tej Bahadur Oli, Ganesh Man Pun, Kali Bahadur Kham, and Mahendra Bahadur Shahi.

The complaint states that after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, some Maoist leaders allegedly arranged for additional fighters to appear in military uniforms to receive funds.

A video cited in the complaint reportedly shows Prachanda claiming that the original count of 7,000 soldiers was inflated to 35,000, with 20,000 being subsequently verified.

It further claims that around 20 billion rupees was spent on camp management over six years, with a significant portion allegedly misappropriated under Prachanda’s directives.

Paudel asserts that the Maoists misused NPR 4 billion from the state treasury and is calling for their arrest and maximum legal action.

The CIAA has officially registered Paudel’s complaint.
