KATHMANDU: While Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane remains in police custody, the party’s Vice Chairman DP Aryal met with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Monday evening.
Aryal, who is informally leading the RSP, shared details about a planned movement centered on Baluwatar and Maitighar, stating, “We are organizing a movement focused in Baluwatar, and I informed the Home Minister about this.”
When asked whether the meeting addressed Chairman Lamichhane’s situation, Aryal responded, “Let’s not discuss that now; our focus was on the Baluwatar-centered movement. I emphasized that the government should not interfere with our peaceful protests.”
Although he was hesitant to disclose specifics, Aryal reportedly expressed to the Home Minister his concerns about Lamichhane’s arrest, describing it as an act of political revenge.
Sources indicate that he urged the Home Minister to avoid repeating such actions in the future.
Aryal also requested that Lamichhane not be detained for an extended period, urging the Home Minister to consider the implications of political retribution.
In response, the Home Minister stated that actions would be taken according to the law, asserting that matters currently before the court cannot be categorized as political revenge.
Additionally, it is said that the Home Minister requested Aryal to ensure that protests do not interfere with ongoing investigations.
The Home Minister has not publicly commented on this meeting, and his office has remained silent about the discussions held with Aryal.
