RSP questions former DIG Joshi’s arrest

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has raised objections to the arrest of former DIG Chabi Lal Joshi, who was detained on charges of cooperative fraud.

Joshi is accused, along with party president Rabi Lamichhane, of embezzling Rs 850 million by using the money in Gorkha Media’s Galaxy Television.

Joshi, currently in the custody of the District Police Office Kaski, was arrested in Kathmandu last Sunday.

However, Acting Spokesperson of RSP Manish Jha criticized the manner of the arrest during a Central Committee meeting, stating that proper legal procedures were not followed.

“We object to how Chabi was arrested,” Jha said. “His statement wasn’t taken, and yet the media published reports that he accused our chair of being complicit in the fraud. This is a ploy to damage our chair and our party’s reputation.”

While Joshi was arrested, Lamichhane remains free, despite the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee’s recommendation for action against both.

The RSP has warned the government against arresting Lamichhane, who reportedly resisted police attempts when they arrived at the party office on the day of Joshi’s arrest.
