KATHMANDU: With Dashain approaching, the Tatopani border, a key route for importing goods from China, has been closed following severe road damage caused by floods and landslides.

The Bely Bridge, located near the Bhotekoshi River, was swept away, cutting off vehicular traffic and stranding numerous containers of Dashain-targeted goods at the border.

Surya Prasad Adhikari, Information Officer at the Tatopani Customs Office, confirmed that the connection between the bridge and the road near the Tiping River has been severed, making it impossible for vehicles to move.

The floods also destroyed the Bely Bridge near the Tatopani border, completely halting road transport in the area.

“There are a large number of containers stranded at the border, unable to reach Nepal for the festival,” Adhikari told Khabarhub.

Typically, when the Tatopani crossing faces disruptions, the Rasuwa border serves as an alternative, and vice versa.

However, the Rasuwa crossing is also facing delays, as road infrastructure leading to Kerung has been damaged by recent rains, according to the Rasuwa District Administration Office.

The simultaneous difficulties at both crossings are likely to cause significant delays in the import of materials for the Dashain festival and the upcoming winter season, raising concerns about shortages during Nepal’s peak festive period.
