161 people rescued by helicopters, most from Roshi area

KATHMANDU: As of Sunday morning, 161 individuals affected by floods, landslides, and other natural hazards have been rescued by Nepali Army (NA) helicopters.

Rishiram Tiwari, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, reported that 83 people were rescued from various municipalities in Kavrepalanchowk.

Although helicopters were dispatched to the area on Saturday, initial rescue efforts were unsuccessful.

Currently, three Nepali Army helicopters are actively conducting operations in Kavrepalanchowk.

Approximately 2,000 people were stranded for two days after the Roshi flood washed away the BP Highway.

Army helicopters have also delivered essential food and water supplies to those in need.

According to the Ministry, on Saturday alone, 13 people were rescued in the Kathmandu Valley, 33 in Sindhuli, and 32 in Makwanpur.

Spokesperson Tiwari confirmed that all available resources are being mobilized to reopen highways blocked by landslides.

The ministry has reported that 107 individuals have lost their lives, 64 are missing, and 73 have sustained injuries due to the ongoing floods and landslides.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed security forces and relevant agencies to expedite rescue operations, provide medical treatment to the injured, and restore access to blocked roads as quickly as possible.
