Landslide in Solukhumbu claims five lives, two houses destroyed

SOLUKHUMBU: Five people have died after two houses were swept away by a landslide in Solukhumbu.

The incidents occurred in Solududhakunda Municipality, specifically in wards 9 and 10.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire from the District Police Office Solukhumbu, the victims include 23-year-old Lhamu Sherpa of Solududhakund-2, her seven-month-old son, Phurba Lhopsang Sherpa, and 29-year-old Reena Tamang from municipality ward 9, who was visiting a nursing home in the area.

They perished when a house belonging to local resident Dimadawa Sherpa was engulfed by the landslide.

In a separate incident, 62-year-old Yangji Sherpa sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Wangchu Memorial Hospital in Tapting, Solududhakunda Municipality-10.

Deputy Superintendent Ghimire also reported that 33-year-old Kavita Magar and 24-year-old Rupu Magar, both from Chailung in Solududhakunda Municipality-10, lost their lives when a landslide demolished the house of Tek Bahadur Magar, which was made of wood, stones, and mud, during the ongoing heavy rainfall.
