Update: 87 dead, 72 missing due to floods and landslides



KATHMANDU: The death toll has risen to 87 due to floods, landslides, and drownings caused by heavy rains over the past three days.

Deputy Inspector General Kumar Neupane, Central Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force Nepal, confirmed the total number of deaths and reported that 72 individuals are still missing.

Additionally, 36 people have sustained injuries.

In Kathmandu Valley alone, 48 people have lost their lives: 25 in Kathmandu, 5 in Bhaktapur, and 18 in Lalitpur.

Outside the valley, 10 fatalities have been recorded in Koshi Province and 29 in Bagmati Province.

The missing persons include 9 in Koshi, one in Madhesh Province, 21 in Kathmandu Valley, 39 in Bagmati, and 2 in Lumbini Province.

The disaster has also affected Kavre, where 14 people have died, along with 7 in Makwanpur, 5 in Panchthar, 4 in Sindhupalchok, and 3 in Dolakha.

Kavre has reported the highest number of missing persons after Kathmandu Valley, with 26 unaccounted for.

In total, 72 individuals are missing across various districts, including 5 in Panchthar, 4 in Jhapa, and 5 in Sindhupalchowk.

Rescue efforts have been significant, with 853 people rescued from Koshi, 56 from Madhesh Province, 1,457 from the valley, and 494 from Bagmati.
