KATHMANDU: Nepal Tube Australia, a leading Australian media outlet, has proudly launched the Diaspora Cricket Scholarships, an initiative designed to support five exceptionally talented young cricketers from Nepal.
The program, aimed at fostering the growth of cricket, awards scholarships to three boys and two girls from underprivileged backgrounds who have demonstrated outstanding skill and potential in the sport.
The scholarship recipients are Siddharth Saud from Achham, Aeli Yadav from Birgunj, Yashoda Bist from Kailali, Sachin Lekhak from Kathmandu, and Dhiraj Deuba from Kaliya.
These selected cricketers, currently residing and training at the Cricket Excellence Centre in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, will have their entire annual training fees covered by the Diaspora Cricket Scholarships.
This financial support is intended to enable these promising athletes to focus on their training and development without the burden of financial constraints.
Paras Khadka, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal, praised the initiative during the scholarship handover ceremony. “This is a fantastic initiative by Nepal Tube Australia,” Khadka remarked.
“I urge Nepali communities around the globe to support such meaningful endeavors. These funds will undoubtedly inspire and motivate Nepali cricketers to reach the international stage.”
Saral Gurung, founder of the Diaspora Cricket Scholarships and Director of Nepal Tube Australia, emphasized the program’s goal of discovering and nurturing grassroots talent.
“Our objective with this scholarship program is to ensure that financial barriers do not hinder the dreams of young cricketers in Nepal,” Gurung explained.
“We want these talented individuals to pursue their passion for cricket with confidence, knowing that they have the support they need.”
In a bold move to further support Nepalese cricketers, Gurung announced plans to expand the scholarship program to 100 scholarships in the coming years.
“We are committed to growing this initiative and providing even more young athletes with the opportunity to excel,” Gurung said.
“We appeal to the Nepali diaspora and cricket enthusiasts to support this cause, helping us make a broader impact on the future of Nepalese cricket.”
Aeli Yadav, one of the young cricketers awarded the scholarship, expressed her gratitude and highlighted the impact of the support on her aspirations.
“This scholarship will greatly help me, especially since my parents are unable to support my cricketing dreams. It is challenging for young girls in Nepal to dream big in this sport, and this support brings me one step closer to achieving my goals,” Yadav said.
