SUDURPASCHIM: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, stated that the formation of the current government aims to lead the country towards development and prosperity.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union (NPU) Kailali at her private residence in Dhangadhi today, the Minister and Nepali Congress central member emphasized that the coalition government was formed by the two major political parties to address mismanagement and crises, and to promote national development.

“It may seem unusual for some to see these two major parties forming a coalition, but history shows that the NC and UML have united during times of national crisis to address the situation,” she added.

Minister Deuba highlighted that instability has hindered the country’s progress, preventing the government from meeting citizens’ expectations.

She affirmed that the current government would remain in power until the next election, scheduled for three years from now.

The Foreign Minister also discussed the need to review the Constitution without compromising its core principles, such as pluralism and inclusion, ensuring it remains a document of peace.

Reflecting on her recent official visit to India, the Minister mentioned discussions about constructing a bridge over the Mahakali River at Jhulaghat, and a proposal to build a cricket stadium at Phapla in Dhangadhi, which received a positive response from the Indian side.

She also addressed issues concerning the upgrading of the Gauriphanta point and the release of water for irrigation from the Tanakpur Barrage.

Additionally, she assured that the government is actively working to secure the safe release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student in Israel, reportedly held hostage by Hamas militants since October last year.

Minister Deuba was in the region to participate in Gaura festival celebrations.
