KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the Parliamentary Probe Special Committee, which is investigating the misuse of cooperative savings funds, will serve as a guiding framework for the government.

During a committee meeting held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat building in Singha Durbar on Monday morning, the Home Minister emphasized that addressing the cooperative issues has become a government priority.

“The government has prioritized resolving the problems related to cooperatives,” he said.

“I believe that the Committee on the misuse of cooperative savings funds will guide the government in this matter,” he stated.

The Home Minister assured that the government is committed to implementing the committee’s directives.

The committee highlighted the need to arrest those accused of misappropriating and embezzling cooperative funds who are currently evading capture, both within the country and abroad.

Inquiry committee coordinator Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri also urged that arrangements be made to facilitate the recording of statements from those currently in jail in connection with the cooperative fraud case.

In response, the Home Minister confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend those who have absconded after embezzling cooperative savings.

He also stated that the home administration will ensure that statements from incarcerated individuals are facilitated.

The meeting was also attended by Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal and Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar.
