Provincial Chiefs of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali reshuffled
The government has enacted a reshuffle of the provincial heads for three provinces.
In a cabinet meeting held on Monday, the decision was made to replace the provincial chiefs of Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali with new appointees.
As per the announcement, Deepak Devkota will take over as the provincial head for Bagmati, Krishna Bahadur Ghartimagar will be the new provincial chief for Lumbini, and Yagyaraj Joshi will assume the role for Karnali.
Govt recommends ambassadors for 18 countries; Shankar Sharma to continue as Ambassador to India
The Council of Ministers has recommended ambassadors for 18 countries.
In a cabinet meeting held on Monday, the decision was made to appoint the new ambassadors.
Notably, Dr. Shankar Sharma will continue his role as Nepal’s Ambassador to India.
Additionally, former Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi and former Secretary Chandra Ghimire have been recommended for ambassadorial positions.
It should be noted that during Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s tenure as Prime Minister, a decision was made to recall the ambassadors appointed from the quotas of the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist in China, Russia, and Australia.
Gorkha landslide: Bodies of 4 missing people found
The bodies of four individuals who went missing after a landslide in Gorkha have been recovered.
The landslide occurred in Dharche Rural Municipality-5, Gorkha district.
The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Jit Bahadur Gurung, his 35-year-old wife Kanchi Gurung, 60-year-old father Suklal Kancha Gurung, and 33-year-old Ramesh Gurung, were located by a search team comprised of the Nepali Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police, and local representatives.
Five people were initially reported missing.
Home Ministry directed to repatriate cooperative fraud suspects from abroad
The Parliamentary Probe Special Committee on misuse of savings funds in cooperatives has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate the return of absconding individuals involved in cooperative fraud, including GB Rai, to Nepal.
During a meeting held on Monday with the Home Minister, Home Secretary, and Chief of Police, the Committee revealed that 18 suspects in the cooperative fraud cases are currently abroad.
The committee has instructed the Home Minister to ensure their repatriation to Nepal.
The list of 18 suspects has been provided to the Home Minister, and the Committee’s coordinator, Surya Thapa, has confirmed that efforts are underway to bring these individuals back.
Proposed Election Commissioner Pradhan withdraws name
After facing strong opposition from the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, Krishnaman Pradhan, who was nominated to be the Election Commissioner, has withdrawn his name from consideration.
Pradhan formally notified the Parliamentary Hearing Committee of his withdrawal through a written application.
Mother, son die in Pokhara school bus accident
In a devastating incident this morning, a mother and her 5-year-old son lost their lives in a school bus accident in Pokhara. Aarati BK, an office assistant at a local school, and her son Prince BK, a UKG student, were among those killed in the mishap at Chharchhare, Pokhara Metropolitan City-21.
The accident occurred as school bus (Ga 1 Kha 6219) was returning from LP Devkota Memorial School in Pokhara-17 Birouta, carrying students.
Initially reported with 22 injuries, the toll has risen to 28 wounded, who are currently receiving medical care at Gandaki Medical College, Manipal Teaching Hospital, and Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences.
Cooperative fraud case: Parliamentary Committee to record statements from incarcerated individuals
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the Parliamentary Probe Special Committee, which is investigating the misuse of cooperative savings funds, will serve as a guiding framework for the government.
During a committee meeting held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat building in Singha Durbar on Monday morning, the Home Minister emphasized that addressing the cooperative issues has become a government priority.
“The government has prioritized resolving the problems related to cooperatives,” he said.
“I believe that the Committee on the misuse of cooperative savings funds will guide the government in this matter,” he stated.
Energy Minister Khadka and American Ambassador Thompson hold meeting
Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka and American Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson held a meeting today at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation.
During their discussion, a range of topics concerning Nepal-US relations were covered.
Minister Khadka emphasized Nepal’s commitment to strengthening the 77-year-old relationship with the United States.
Transitional Justice mechanism meeting to convene on Thursday
The meeting of the Transitional Justice (TJ) mechanism is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
On Monday, a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar, attended by stakeholders including members of the mechanism, decided to hold a follow-up meeting on Thursday.
Nepali Congress leader and Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula, and Maoist Centre’s Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma participated in the meeting, which focused on finalizing the TJ bill.
Gold price up by Rs 400 per tola today
The price of gold in the domestic market increased by Rs 400 per tola today.
According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold was priced at Rs 146,100 per tola, while standard gold was traded at Rs 145,000 per tola.
On Sunday, the price of fine gold was Rs 145,700 per tola while standard gold was Rs 145,400 per tola.
In addition, the price of silver today is Rs 1,740 per tola.
Magnet lost while searching for missing buses found
A magnet belonging to the Indian rescuers’ team, which was lost while searching for the buses missing in the Trishuli River following an accident at Simaltal, has been found.
The 19-kg magnet and lifebuoy tube were lost when they were hurled away by the river while searching for the buses on July 27.
The lost magnet was found in the Narayani River at Kabhreghat this morning, said Indradev Yadav, the Chief District Officer of Chitwan.
The lifebuoy tube has also been found along with the magnet, he added.
Bardiya National Park boasts 125 Royal Bengal tigers
Bardiya National Park, located in Bardiya district, now boasts approximately 125 Royal Bengal Tigers, making it Nepal’s second-largest habitat for these majestic big cats.
This number places it closely behind Chitwan National Park, which currently houses 128 of these endangered species.
From just 18 tigers in 2010, the population at Bardiya National Park has thrived, thanks to dedicated conservation efforts involving local communities, according to Purusottam Wagle, Conservation Officer at the Park.
Miss Malta’s team welcomed in Kathmandu with traditional Dhaka Topi and music
Miss Malta, Cherise Spiteri, arrived in Nepal on Monday for a visit that promises to highlight the beauty of the country.
She landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on a Turkish Airlines flight, and was warmly welcomed with traditional Nepali hospitality, including the presentation of a ‘dhaka topi’ (traditional hat) and panchebaja (musical ensemble).
The welcoming ceremony was organized under the leadership of the Nepal Tourism Board and the NRNA Malta.
