Govt striving to ensure self-sufficiency in food grains: PM Dahal

CHITWAN: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that the government is actively working towards making Nepal self-sufficient in rice and other food grains.

Addressing the 21st National Paddy Day and Ropai Jatra organized by Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan today, Prime Minister Dahal highlighted the government’s commitment through the agriculture-decade program.

This initiative, outlined in the government’s policies, programs, and budget, aims to reduce production costs and increase productivity.

The Prime Minister emphasized that achieving self-sufficiency in paddy is possible by providing smooth and easy access to irrigation, seeds, and fertilizers, along with the adoption of mechanization.

Noting that rice is a strategic crop for the country, he urged all three tiers of government to ensure the successful implementation of these policies.

PM Dahal also expressed his belief in agriculture as a pathway to prosperity, stressing the importance of engaging in agro-based trade and promoting the country’s economic sector.

Similarly, Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jammakattel, shared that the provincial government has initiated a program to provide grants to dairy farmers, promote agriculture, and create employment opportunities.

Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolis, Renu Dahal, informed that plans are underway to ensure year-round irrigation for all fertile land in Chitwan. She added that efforts are being made to make Chitwan self-sufficient in food grains.
