SC overturns suspension of NC lawmaker Tek Bahadur Gurung by Parliament Secretariat

The Supreme Court (SC) has revoked the suspension of Nepali Congress MP Tek Bahadur Gurung imposed by the Parliament Secretariat. Gurung, who represents Manang in the Parliament, was suspended by the Parliament Secretariat on December 27, 2022. He, along with 14 others, faced charges of abusing authority by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on February 4, 2019.

PM Dahal assures contractors amidst economic improvements

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ claimed that country’s economy was not crisis-ridden like last year. Addressing the 25th annual general assembly of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) in Hetauda today, Prime Minister Dahal asserted that there had been a positive improvement in the economic indicators. He, however, said the national economy was not completely free from stressors and called for an intensive discussion for that.

SC orders search for alternative cremation site to substitute cremation at Pashupati’s Sleshmantak area

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to completely halt cremations in the Sleshmantak forest area of Pashupati within a year. In the final hearing of a writ petition filed by lawyer Deepak Bikram Mishra six years ago, a division bench comprising Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Nahakul Subedi, on January 21, issued an order to explore alternative sites for cremation in the forest area designated for such purposes.

Nagarik Unmukti directs to withdraw support given to Sudurpaschim govt

The Nagarik Unmukti Party has directed the parliamentary party of the Sudurpaschim province to withdraw its support from the government led by the Nepali Congress. Chairperson of Nagarik Unmukti, Ranjita Shrestha, instructed Ghanashyam Chaudhary, the leader of the Sudurpaschim parliamentary party, to retract their support and exit the government. Chairperson Shrestha has urged the provincial party leadership to adhere to the decisions made during the party’s meeting on March 27.

Nepal falls short against Ireland Wolves despite Lokesh’s century

Despite Lokesh’s century, Nepal A faced defeat against Ireland Wolves by 21 runs in the first T20 cricket match. Chasing Ireland A’s target of 223 runs at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal was bowled out for 201 runs in 19.3 overs. Although Lokesh Bam scored a century against Ireland A, it wasn’t enough to turn the match in favor of the team.

Bagmati CM Jamkattel to seek vote of confidence on April 1

The Chief Minister (CM) of Bagmati Province is poised to seek a vote of confidence on April 1st. A proposal to solicit a vote of confidence was submitted to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Friday. CM Shalikram Jamkattel is slated to undergo a vote of confidence following the withdrawal of support from the Nepali Congress for the provincial government.

Govt forms committee to investigate weapons license granted to Durga Prasai

In response to recent developments, the government has initiated an investigation into the granting of a weapons license to Durga Prasai. During a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, a decision was made to establish a four-member committee, led by Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary Rajendra Dev Pandey, to oversee the inquiry. The decision comes after two of Prasai’s bodyguards were apprehended with weapons on March 18 within the premises of the Supreme Court.

Subpar work adds state liability: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ emphasized that the State incurred additional liabilities due to the failure to deliver quality work as per the agreements made. Speaking at the 25th general assembly of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) held here today, PM Dahal highlighted that numerous projects faced delays because construction entrepreneurs did not meet their obligations as stipulated in the agreements.
