KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, revealed the government’s plan to introduce a policy mandating the use of locally-made Nepali attire at workplaces twice a week.
During an interaction organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Lalitpur’s Mahalaxmi Municipality today, Minister Bhandari disclosed that initially, all ministers would wear traditional Nepali attire as part of the first phase of implementation.
Highlighting the government’s focus on bolstering domestic production, Bhandari emphasized the forthcoming policy, requiring employees across all State institutions to wear Nepali attire from head to toe twice a week.
He clarified, “Initially, ministers will lead by example, followed by parliamentarians and other public representatives.”
The implementation of this new directive will follow a thorough study of the domestic market and subsequent expansion, the Minister assured.
Expressing concern over Nepal’s trade deficit, Bhandari reassured the government’s commitment to promoting exports.
He stressed that the primary objective was to uplift public morale and foster optimism among citizens.
Additionally, Minister Bhandari announced the imminent enforcement of a “Start-up policy” to invigorate domestic production.
He disclosed plans to endorse procedures during the next cabinet meeting to enhance the effectiveness of the Prime Minister Domestic Production and Consumption Increment Programme in the upcoming fiscal year.
Acknowledging the challenge faced by Nepali products in securing a significant market share, he pledged to conduct training and skill development programs for aspiring entrepreneurs interested in establishing export-oriented enterprises.
