KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order regarding the land donation of 10 ropanis and 14 annas in Kirtipur for the construction of the CPN-UML party office by businessman Min Bahadur Gurung.

On Monday, Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel’s single bench issued the interim order against the land donation.

Advocate Gyan Bahadur Basnet filed a writ petition arguing that the land transfer from Gurung to the UML was illegal and sought to halt construction of the building.

To resolve this dispute, the Supreme Court has summoned both the UML and Min Bahadur Gurung for discussions.

Initially, the Supreme Court administration had dismissed Basnet’s writ, but last Tuesday, Justice Til Prasad Shrestha overturned that decision, allowing the writ to be registered.

Gurung and his wife, Sabitri Gurung, donated the land in Maitrinagar, Kirtipur Municipality-2, for the UML party office.

Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli had already laid the foundation stone for the party office building on Ashwin 25.

Gurung had committed to building a state-of-the-art structure on the donated land in time for the upcoming Dashain festival, with the promise of a true handover at the site in Dhungeadda, Maitrinagar.
