KATHMANDU: Torrential rains have caused landslides and floods, fully blocking 63 locations across 23 roadways nationwide, according to the Department of Roads.

Preliminary reports indicate that traffic movement has been severely affected, particularly in hilly and mountainous areas.

Arjun Aryal, Chief of the Maintenance Division at the Department, stated that all checkpoints into the Kathmandu Valley are currently shut down, making access extremely difficult.

Due to power and internet outages in affected regions, comprehensive data collection has been hampered.

Aryal emphasized that the current information is preliminary and may change as the situation evolves.

The Bagmati Bridge along the Kanti Lokpath is also at high risk following the opening of the Kulekhani reservoir gates this morning.

The Belhiya-Pokhara road via Bhairahawa and the Bhadare area in Okhaldunga district under the Mid-Hill Highway have also been obstructed by landslides.

In Panchthar district, the Bhedetar-Rabi-Ranke road section is similarly affected.

Nuwakot district has experienced damage along the Thori-Syaphrubesi road section via Malekhu, as well as the Balaju-Syaphurbesi section via Dhunche.

The Bheri Corridor is obstructed in the Chhinchu Marim section via Jajarkot, while landslides and floods have also impacted sections of the Mechi Highway, Kechana-Olangchungola road via Taplejung, and Madar-Okhaldhunga-Salleri section via Udaypur.

On the Sahid Highway, sections such as Koilabas-Rukum via Ghorahi and Narpani-Sandhikharka through Khumti in Arghakhanchi are flooded.

Other areas affected include Khokseli and Chisapani in Khotang, as well as Phikkal, Harjeni, and Salghari along the Pushpa Lal Highway.

Vehicular movement has been completely disrupted from Chatara Bridge to the Baraha area of the Tamor corridor, as well as along the Ridi-Surkhet section via Pyuthan, Dumre-Chame section via Besisahar, and Hetauda-Ekatantakuna section via Bagmati under the Kanti Highway.

Landslides have also occurred in multiple areas, including Manedhovan of Lalitpur under Gwarko-Dahaltar, Sisneri of Dakshinkali Municipality-8, Pharping in Kirtipur Municipality-6, and Lele Tikabhairab in Godawari Municipality-6.
