Corruption case filed against forest users’ group officials

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against Dol Bahadur Karki, the former Chair of the Maivalley Community Forest Users’ Group in Ilam, and Treasurer Rita Sambahamfe.

Karki is accused of corruption for acting as both the chair of the Users’ Group and the contractor during the Kabeli Corridor expansion, where he allegedly cut down more trees than permitted.

The CIAA’s case, filed today, seeks legal action and the recovery of the embezzled amount, totaling 3.78 million rupees.

According to CIAA spokesperson Narahari Ghimire, the charges include both imprisonment and fines for Karki and Sambahamfe.
