Running for a cause: International marathon to support Red Panda conservation



TAPLEJUNG: An International Marathon is set to be organized to raise public awareness for the conservation of the endangered Red Panda.

The event will take place on September 21 in celebration of Red Panda Day, under the aegis of the Himali Conservation Forum. Runners will cover a distance of 48 kilometers.

According to Ramesh Rai, Programme Coordinator of the Forum, the marathon is anticipated to make a significant impact on Red Panda conservation efforts.

The route will traverse the Pathibhara area, which is a crucial habitat for the Red Panda.

The marathon course will start and end at Phungling Bazar, covering a 24-kilometer uphill stretch to Pathibhara shrine and returning another 24 kilometers to Phungling Bazar.

Coordinator Rai added that preparations for the marathon are already underway and expressed optimism that the event will boost tourism and support biodiversity conservation in Taplejung.
