KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced that the monsoon rains will not obstruct waste management in the Kathmandu Valley this year.

KMC officials assured that the issues faced during last year’s monsoon have been resolved.

Sunil Lamsal, KMC’s advisor on infrastructure, stated that transportation problems to the Bancharedanda landfill site have been addressed, ensuring continuous waste management operations.

He mentioned, “The waste at Sisdol has been managed with capping, and an alternative route has been opened for garbage transport.”

To prevent landslips, strong retention walls have been constructed at previously problematic spots.

Waste management in KMC, except for nine inner wards, is carried out in collaboration with private companies.

The Kathmandu Valley generates a total of 1,200 metric tons of waste daily, with KMC collecting 500 metric tons of it.

Every day, 200 haulers are used to transport the garbage.

Bancharedanda is the current landfill site for Kathmandu’s waste, following the management of waste at Sisdol and Gokarna in the past.
