KATHMANDU: A student from Zambia has passed this year’s Secondary Education Examination (SEE) from a Nepali school based in Tokyo, Japan.

Chisa Tyris Kaweza, a student at Everest International School in central Tokyo, scored a GPA of 2.95, according to School Principal Bishnu Prasad Bhatta.

A total of 23 students from this school, including nine boys and 14 girls, appeared for the SEE this year.

All of them passed the examination. Principal Bhatta noted that the majority of these students scored above a GPA of 3.8.

“All students who took the SEE have passed with excellent results,” he added.

The Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo has been monitoring the SEE conducted at this school.

According to the SEE results published on Thursday by the National Examinations Board (NEB), more than half of the students who sat for SEE-2023 failed the test, with only 47.86 percent passing.

In this context, it is particularly noteworthy that a student from an African country passed the SEE from an overseas Nepali school.

This year marks the fourth batch of students from Everest International School to appear for the SEE since its establishment in 2013.

The school started with 16 students and now has 450 students, including Nepali and international students. Six Japanese students are currently enrolled.

The school operates according to the Nepali curriculum and has been recognized by the Japanese government as an international-standard school.

Sixty-two teachers from various countries, including Nepal, Japan, India, the Philippines, and America, teach at the school.

According to Principal Bhatta, Everest International School in Tokyo is the only secondary school outside Nepal that follows the Nepali curriculum.
