JANAKPUR: Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Singh is set to seek a vote of confidence on July 5.

According to the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Chief Minister Singh has prepared to seek a vote of confidence on that date.

Although Chief Minister Singh had planned to seek the vote earlier, he stated that the delay was due to the CPN-Unified Socialist Party’s general convention.

He mentioned that Unified Socialist party lawmakers requested not to seek the vote before July 4, leading to the decision to go for the vote of confidence on July 5.

According to Article 168 (4) of the Constitution, a Chief Minister must seek a vote of confidence from the assembly within 30 days of their appointment.

Hence, Chief Minister Singh must secure the vote by July 6.

Singh was appointed Chief Minister with the support of the majority of lawmakers after the previous Chief Minister, Janata Samajbadi Party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav, failed to secure a majority in the assembly.

Province Chief Sumitra Bhandari appointed Satish Singh as Chief Minister from the Janamat Party on June 7.

Chief Minister Singh claimed to have the support of 55 lawmakers while submitting a request for nomination before the Province Chief.

Chief Minister Singh is backed by the CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Janamat Party, Unified Socialist, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Nepal Federal Socialist Party.
