KATHMANDU: The government has raised the excise duty and internal tax on electric vehicles.
During his presentation of the budget for the fiscal year 2081/82, Finance Minister Barshaman Pun announced that the excise duty and internal tax on electric vehicles have been increased by 5 to 20 percent.
For electric vehicles up to 50 kilowatts, the excise duty has been increased by 5 percent, making it 15 percent, while a 5 percent internal tax will be applicable.
Similarly, for electric vehicles ranging from 51 to 100 kilowatts, there will be a 20 percent excise duty and 15 percent internal tax.
For vehicles with a motor capacity from 101 to 200 kilowatts, a 30 percent excise duty and 20 percent internal tax will be imposed.
Likewise, for electric vehicles with a motor capacity exceeding 200 kilowatts, the government has announced a 60 percent excise duty and 50 percent internal tax regime.
