Ilam-2 by-election vote counting set to begin at 11 AM

KATHMANDU: Vote counting for the Ilam-2 by-election, conducted on Saturday, is scheduled to commence from 11 AM today, as confirmed by sources.

This decision was unanimously agreed upon during an all-party meeting convened on Sunday morning.

The by-election in Ilam-2 constituency was necessitated by the unfortunate demise of Subash Chandra Nemwang.

With a notable turnout of 60 percent from among the 115,889 eligible voters, Saturday’s election saw 69,287 ballots cast, according to Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire.

All 149 polling stations’ ballot boxes, originating from 79 polling stations in Ilam, have been securely transported to the central counting venue.

To ensure a controlled environment, wire netting has been installed at the counting venue, permitting only authorized enumerators inside while representatives observe proceedings from outside.

Additionally, 11 closed-circuit cameras have been strategically positioned for monitoring purposes.

Authorities plan to provide regular updates on the counting process, with results expected to be displayed hourly at the Ilam Chowk Bazar for public access and transparency.
