KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 20 individuals, including former Chairmen Digambar Jha and Purushottam Khanal of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.

The anti-graft body has accused these individuals of corruption related to the procurement and installation of the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) at Nepal Telecom.

The defendants are alleged to have procured the MDMS at a higher rate than permitted, leading to a corruption case amounting to Rs 919.83 million filed at the Special Court.

Following allegations of involvement, former Chairman Khanal resigned from his position.

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority introduced the MDMS on Bhadra 30, 2079 BS, aiming to curb the illegal import of mobile phones into Nepal.
