Maoist Center affirms candidacy in NA Chair election



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, reiterated the party’s commitment to contesting the upcoming election for the post of Chairman of the National Assembly.

Speaking at the Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday, Chairman Dahal affirmed the party’s intention to vie for the prestigious position.

During Tuesday’s meeting, party leaders had urged Chairman Dahal to assert the party’s claim for the chairmanship.

In a parallel development, the Nepali Congress, the coalition partner of the Maoist Center, has also announced its intention to compete for the position.

The party is expected to nominate Krishna Prasad Sitaula as its candidate.

The election for the Chairman of the National Assembly is slated for March 12, setting the stage for a significant political showdown.
