KATHMANDU: Sabitra Bhandari, the celebrated forward of the Nepali football team affectionately known as Samba, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the leading women’s goal scorer in South Asia.
Samba, who had previously secured the record for scoring 53 goals for Nepal in international matches, further solidified her legacy by becoming the top scoring women’s football player in South Asia with a crucial goal against Lebanon in the ongoing WAFF Women’s Championship held in Saudi Arabia.
On the global stage, Bhandari currently holds the 31st position among the top goal scorers, a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
In addition to her remarkable achievements on the field, Bhandari has also etched her name in history as the first Nepali player to compete in league games in Europe, further elevating the profile of Nepali football on the international stage.
Nepal is set to face Jordan in the WAFF Championship final on Thursday.
