BHARATPUR: Sauraha is set to become the vibrant hub of cultural exchange and cinematic celebration as it hosts a South Asian Film Festival organized by Caravan Nepal.

Scheduled to kick off on February 1 in Ratnanagar Municipality-7, the five-day festival aims to foster the development of Nepali films while boosting tourism in the picturesque region.

Bimal Paudel, President of Caravan Nepal and a renowned film director, highlighted the festival’s objective to provide a platform for more than 100 stalls featuring movies, tourism, and local traditional delicacies.

Anticipating a turnout of 50,000 spectators, the event is expected to generate a substantial turnover of Rs. 15 million.

The festival isn’t just about showcasing films; it’s a platform for discussions on initiatives required for the development of the film and tourism industry.

Stakeholders from both the public and private sectors will convene during the festival to discuss policy reforms, drawing the government’s attention to areas that need improvement.

Ratnanagar Municipality is extending its support to the festival, which will feature films, documentaries, and short films.

Filmmakers from eight countries in the region will add an international flair to the event, fostering cultural exchange and celebrating the richness of South Asian storytelling.

The festival is not only a cinematic extravaganza but also a recognition platform. Awards will be presented in categories such as the best film, best director, and best screenplay.

Gokarna Giri, the co-coordinator of the main festival organizing committee, expressed optimism about the festival’s role in reviving tourism in Sauraha and Chitwan.

Caravan Nepal has a track record of organizing successful events, including the Golden Film Festival in Birgunj and a festival centered around Buddha’s biography and philosophy in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.

The South Asian Film Festival in Sauraha is expected to add another significant chapter to the organization’s contributions to cultural and cinematic enrichment.
