Kathmandu shivers as mercury hits year’s lowest at 2.2°C

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley experienced the coldest morning of the year on Sunday, with the mercury plunging to a bone-chilling 2.2 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

As of 8:45 AM, the minimum temperature in the valley was recorded at 2.1 degrees Celsius.

The chilling temperatures were not confined to Kathmandu alone, with Jumla registering a frigid -4.9 degrees Celsius, Nepalgunj at 8.4 degrees, and Pokhara at 6 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division warns that with no winter rains expected in Nepal in the near future, temperatures are likely to drop further in the coming days.

Residents are advised to brace themselves for colder conditions as winter tightens its grip on the region.
