Dry port in Rasuwa 72 % complete

KATHMANDU: Construction of the dry port in Timure, Rasuwa, located near Nepal’s northern border with China, is 72 percent complete, according to Ashish Gajurel, Executive Director of the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee.

Gajurel provided the update after an on-site inspection of the project, which is being built with financial and technical support from the Chinese government.

Key infrastructure developments have already taken shape. A 700-meter-long, 5.5-meter-high cement embankment has been constructed along the Bhotekoshi inlet.

Additionally, the port’s auxiliary roads, dredging works, and two warehouse buildings have been completed.

The dry port is designed to streamline trade and logistics, offering facilities such as a joint inspection site, additional warehouse buildings, and parking for 300 freight trucks and 100 smaller vehicles.

Construction is progressing with the aim of finishing by July 2025, Gajurel said.

The Timure dry port is expected to enhance cross-border trade between Nepal and China, providing modern infrastructure for efficient transportation and customs operations.
