NEA moves to freeze assets of 34 industries over unpaid electricity dues

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has initiated action to freeze shares and bank accounts of 34 industries that have failed to clear their outstanding electricity bills despite repeated notices.

Following the government’s directive and the expiration of the final deadline, NEA has written to the concerned companies to deduct the unpaid dues from payments owed under power purchase agreements for energy projects in which these industries have investments.

Additionally, NEA has written to the Office of the Company Registrar to freeze the shares of these defaulters.

Durga Prasai denied release in cybercrime case

Viral medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, arrested on charges of cybercrime, will not be released from custody as per a Supreme Court decision.

A joint bench of Justices Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Nityananda Pandey rejected a habeas corpus petition filed on Prasai’s behalf, declining his release.

Despite rejecting the petition, the court directed the government to ensure Prasai receives necessary medical treatment.

PM Oli directs ministries to deliver effectively

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the Cabinet members and secretaries to ensure effective delivery.

During the first quarterly meeting on the implementation of the current fiscal year’s policy, programmes and budget on Wednesday, PM Oli stressed for changes in the present working style so that expected results can be achieved.

He however said it was not that easy to forward works as the previous government had brought the budget. The working style need radical change, PM Oli stressed.

MCA-Nepal relaunches 297 km transmission line bid

The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal) has relaunched the call for bids to construct a 297 km power transmission line.

The transmission line to be built under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact will strengthen Nepal’s power transmission network.

The bid submission deadline is set for 30 January 2025, with construction divided into three lots: Lapsiphedi-Ratmate-New Hetauda, Ratmate-New Damauli, and New Damauli-New Butwal.

NEA Board of Directors decides not to cut power to industries

The Board of Directors of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided not to cut electricity supply to industries, following a meeting.

Board member Kapil Acharya stated that, as per a letter from the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the decision has been made to refrain from cutting power to industries for the time being.

Acharya expressed concerns that such decisions from the Commission, issued periodically, could create difficulties and lead to potential revenue loss.

Gold price up by Rs 900 per tola today

he prices of gold and silver increased in the Nepali market today.

The Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation reported an increase of Rs 900 per tola for gold.

According to the Federation, gold is now being traded at Rs 149,600 per tola, up from Rs 148,700 per tola on Tuesday.
