KATHMANDU: The Board of Directors of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided not to cut electricity supply to industries, following a meeting.
Board member Kapil Acharya stated that, as per a letter from the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the decision has been made to refrain from cutting power to industries for the time being.
Acharya expressed concerns that such decisions from the Commission, issued periodically, could create difficulties and lead to potential revenue loss.
He also noted that the Commission has not yet provided a clear alternative plan for addressing the issue or for collecting outstanding dues.
The decision by the Board is still pending final approval.
On Wednesday, following the Electricity Regulatory Commission’s directive on Tuesday not to disconnect power from industries, a committee meeting was held to discuss the issue.
The meeting concluded with the decision to maintain the current power supply to industries.
Previously, the NEA had disconnected electricity to industries that failed to pay dues for trunk and dedicated lines.
However, after the government intervened, instructing the authority to restore power, the NEA had issued a notice warning of another round of disconnections for industries that did not settle their dues within 15 days of reconnection.
This 15-day deadline expired on Wednesday, but following the directive from the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the committee decided to postpone the disconnections.
